TREK
The TREK is a yearlong process designed to help school and community people visualize and implement the process of whole school change. The goals of CES TREK are to assist schools in better understanding the change process and the Ten Common Principles, to establish strong teams of critical friends, and to assist individual school teams in the creation of a plan of action for engaging the school faculties in the Common Principles and school change for the following school year.
The TREK begins in the spring when, assisted by a School Coach, a school team collects data on student achievement, parent participation, and teacher attitudes and practices. A week-long summer seminar introduces school teams to the change process and prepares them with tools for diagnosing their school's situation and imagining what the school could become.
Upon returning to their school, with support from the LACES school coach, the TREK team engages their school community in learning TREK tools and in transforming their school to be a place where all students experience powerful teaching and learning. TREK teams work in clusters as 'critical friends' throughout the year to support and critique each other's efforts. TREK II, during the second summer, deepens the schools use of data and evidence to address equity issues and keep change focused on teaching and learning.
